It all started in 1965 when a company named Van Slooten which is located in Friesland, The Netherlands started to make rolls of black licorice. The licorice was in a shape of a tyre and every tyre was wrapped individually in a piece of paper which had funny or extraordinary facts written on them. In 1985 the rolls of Autodrop are available in 3 flavors, light salty, soft & sweet and menthol. Two years later they make a big step and started to create licorice in the shape of cars. The Beetle, the T-Ford, The Cadillac and the Double-Decker Bus were the set examples. In 1999 Autodrop does some experiments with new types of candy and licorice, presenting new models but none of them really stick. In 2002 they released the so called mix boxes which have a mix of licorice and candy in them. Some known models together with some newly introduced models. These did have great success and still exist today, such as Dropdonders and Total Loss. In 2005 a brand new licorice line gets released to the market with a fresh design for the packaging. These are also available at Yummy Dutch. Their slogan is very catchy: Autodrop, zo lekker het zou verboden moeten worden! Which translates to: Autodrop, so good it should be prohibited! |
